We’re back in the swing of things here at TLDR HQ, and getting that new year buzz. What do you mean it’s nearly February? In this edition we'll cover: NA’s monthly death, Jerry’s yearly resurgence and device’s second coming.
The death of NA (again)
Do you remember last edition of this newsletter?
We hope you do. It was three days ago. We talked about EG beating Heroic. NA was on top of the world and Evil Geniuses were back. Brehze was top 10 in the world all over again.
Yeah. Since then, NA are 2-8 in maps at BLAST, and those two wins were against a fellow NA team.
After Complexity (supposedly) kicked up a fuss about k0nfig playing, FaZe were left with es3tag, who presumably Complexity were happier about.
es3tag went 31-9 in a 16-9 Overpass win.
Liquid were soundly beaten by OG, while Evil Geniuses’ honeymoon period lasted one series. They got tonked 16-1 by Vitality to lose 0-2.
Still, Liquid picked up a win, at least. They dismantled Complexity on Anubis before outclassing them on Overpass, leaving NA in exactly the same place as it was in 2022. Relying on Liquid not soiling the sheets.
Elsewhere, FaZe shrugged off the rust to close out a series over OG, HooXi went negative in a G2 victory (obviously) and headtr1ck impressed, but couldn’t topple his old team as b1t and s1mple were better players than everyone on NIP.
Like, obviously.

Jerry’s Merry Men
Like cat and mouse, Jerry’s done it again.
The Russian IGL has once more flown a forZe team to Pro League, this time with an entirely different roster. They fittingly put an End(point) to MiGHTYMAX and co’s Pro League dreams in the decider, despite valiant efforts from Nertz and mhL.
Krad spearheaded forZe’s comebacks, helped out by the Akimbo Aleksandrs in shalfey and zorte. Joining them in Malta next month will be Portuguese side SAW and freshly-rebuilt (for the millionth time) Eternal Fire.
Across the pond, a Fadey-less ATK bested MIBR with help from “super” sub motm, in the first round. Their second attempt proved fruitful, with MIBR and 00NATION qualifying, beating Nouns and Flamengo respectively. They make two of the five Brazilian teams participating in Season 17.
The Cinderella stories may end there, however, as the rest of the 32 teams are padded out by the likes of NAVI, Cloud9, Liquid, and reigning champs Vitality.
Though in fairness, NAVI will definitely lose to someone in a hilarious fashion. As is tradition.
Danish for El Classico, wait this isn’t Google
Gone are the days of Danish derbies being in the playoffs.
Or even, indeed, the upper bracket.
With Heroic losing to Evil Geniuses (yes, that did really happen, and no, it wasn’t a fever dream) and Astralis getting thumped by Vitality, it set up a tasty lower-bracket clash between two old foes.
Even though this BLAST event barely matters - what with it being essentially a seeding event - this game definitely did. When cadiaN is involved, bragging rights mean twice as much.
Because with them he must be bloody insufferable.
A fired-up Astralis powered by device took Inferno, with blameF taking a back seat. If Heroic have a weakness, it would be cadiaN vs other AWPers, and Astralis made them pay for it. device even on a rifle was cooking, and Astralis struck first.
That, however, was as good as it got for Astralis.
gla1ve came out after map one saying that Astralis could now match anyone, and play among the best. They were swiftly proven wrong, as Heroic decapitated them on Mirage. cadiaN, after being outdone by device on Inferno, died just three times in a 16-4 win.
That set up a showdown on Vertigo, but in truth, it wasn’t fitting of the word. Astralis once more could only put up four rounds, going out in last place of their group with a whimper. device’s comeback has so far done little to halt the bleeding.
If there was any doubt about the best Danish team in the world, there certainly isn’t now.
Not until MSL and aizy’s team come back up to the top.
