IEM Katowice Playoff Preview
There’s good news, and there’s a tiny bit of bad news.
The good news is we have five of the best, most exciting, craziest teams in the world duking it out for one of the most prestigious trophies in Counter-Strike.
The bad news is there are six teams in the playoffs.
Sorry, Virtus.pro, we don’t mean to be mean, it’s just… without FL4MUS (who only had a visa until playoffs - clearly they weren’t expecting to be any good either), you’re significantly less exciting. And we weren’t that excited before.
They probably won’t last long against Spirit, and we don’t just mean they’ll be out in the first game, we mean that the game quite literally won’t last long. After all, this is a VP missing one of their better players and going up against donk.
Fortunately, the game before that is one we will absolutely be there for.
The MongolZ, everyone’s second team, is playing against Eternal Fire, everyone’s third team. These are two very likable teams, playing really well and with a shot at an arena semi-final.
It’s a good match-up for both; neither has played that much in an arena, so it’s a fair fight, and they both probably feel they can win this game. They both probably feel they can win the whole event, and they’re probably right.
We just want to see XANTARES play like he has been in an arena. We had his evolution from onliner to offliner - now we need his evo from group stager to arena-er. Needs workshopping.
Waiting for those two is Team Vitality, and waiting for Team Spirit is NAVI. Again, these are amazing games that could go either way.
NAVI vs. Spirit is proving to be this generation’s big game, and it might just decide the outcome of this tournament.
You better not be leaving the house this weekend. Yes, that’s a threat.
