After being in business for 27 years and holding an OG spot in esports history, Evil Geniuses have announced they will be closing their doors in less than two weeks
After 27 years of activity, the worst organisation you've ever heard of has announced they'll very soon be closing their doors.
And no, we don't mean NIP. Or Liquid. Or FaZe. Or even Astralis.
We mean Evil Geniuses, who were the laughing stock of CS before they backed out of the game in 2023, but previously held talented rosters in the pre-COVID era and had a history in CS that dated back to 2001.

Remember when EG were good?
EG were one of the leading teams in the early years of Counter-Strike, with their org becoming one of the backbones of the NA scene.
They developed a rivalry against Complexity in those years, and after signing Complexity's team and combining them with then-wonderkid n0thing in 2008, they enjoyed their biggest era of success before backing out in 2012.
EG would then return in 2019, signing a talented NRG roster that consisted of CeRq, Ethan, Brehze, tarik, and stanislaw. One of the best teams in the world at the time, they even beat prime Astralis at ESL One New York 2019.
And then COVID happened.
EG would remain strong during COVID, but Ethan's departure to VALORANT spelled the beginning of the end for the team. They signed oBo - who the less said about, the better - and benched tarik a month later, favouring Polish player MICHU over him.
Right then.

The banter era
The team would continue to snowball into irrelavancy from that point, and the disaster era really began when autimatic, RUSH, and stewie2k were signed to play alongside CeRq and Brehze.
Every single player was past their best at that point, and they became nothing more than everyone's favourite punch bags at BLAST events, which they only got to attend thanks to the old partner system.
See? VRS isn't THAT bad.
To make matters worse, EG also announced their "Blueprint" during this time, which saw them sign two more NA rosters, supposedly to help regional prospects grow, but one of these teams was made up of a bunch of players who had never been good, and never would be good.
Shoutout PwnAlone one time.
Eventually, EG would realise this was all a terrible idea, and the org just became a revolving door of players who simply weren't good enough to actually be paid money to play CS.
The result was EG leaving Counter-Strike in 2024, and no one being arsed at all to see the back of them.
EG stuck around in VALORANT for a little while, and even won a VALORANT Champions (which is a Major, btw) but then fluffed their lines and ended up buggering up their team for the following year. So at least it's not just CS where EG fans got f-cked.
With VALORANT now denying the org VCT partnership, EG have no reason to stick around in esports any longer.
We'd say we're sad, but given how poorly this org has been run in the last few years, there's at least some degree of karma to it.
