Major round-up
What a ride, huh?
The Major’s Elimination Stage is now over and we’ve seen it all: the good, the bad, and the FURIA.
We got to witness the rise and fall of NA’s last hope, the Turkish dream coming to life, and Jame’s (possibly) playoff-killer crash.
Let’s just say we’ve been feasting lately. Just not on Pick’Em points, those are still tough to come by. We’re looking at you, Heroic.
3-0
MOUZ cruised into the Major Playoffs without dropping a single map, mainly thanks to Jimpphat’s 1.50 rating. While we were just tuning into Majors at 17, this young man is already playing in them. What are they feeding kids nowadays?
Additionally, Team Spirit confirmed their favoritism and secured a spot in the Royal Arena. Despite playing through a headache in the qualifying BO3 versus NAVI, donk still pulled off a solid 1.31 rating performance.
If he’s that good while feeling off, imagine what he could do at full strength. Never mind, no need to speculate, just look at IEM Katowice. Scary stuff.
3-1 & 3-2
History was made in Copenhagen. For the first time in CS, a Turkish team was able to qualify for the playoffs of a Major.
woxic’s Eternal Fire had their work cut out for them, facing heavyweights like Vitality, MOUZ, and Virtus Pro, even handing out a convincing 13-1 beatdown against FaZe. An unforgettable moment for the Turks.
Cloud9 and Vitality are also playoff-bound, joining EF in the 3-1 pool.
Following a couple of shaky performances, FaZe, G2, and NAVI managed to scrape by, sending the likes of Complexity, VP, and Pain packing, and ends the Stage with a 3-2 score.
2-3 & 1-3
A bunch of surprises here.
paiN gave it their all, upsetting Heroic in the 1-2 pool. A valiant effort from biguzera and company. We’re still amazed how he’s not on a bigger team. FURIA desperately need him.
On another note, Virtus.pro stumbled in the final hurdle versus G2. But the real gut punch? A heartbreaking crash on Jame’s PC in the middle of a crucial round, likely cost them the series and a spot in the playoffs. Although PGL is investigating the issue, the damage is done and it’s got to be a real blow for the Russian squad to go out like that.
Jame’s game was not the only thing crashing in Copenhagen. Despite a strong 2-0 start to the Elimination Stage, the bald eagle EliGE was not able to maintain his stellar form from the first day and Complexity ended up dropping three consecutive BO3s. NA fans, cheer up, at least you got a couple of extra spots in Shangai.
Lastly, both Imperial and ECSTATIC ended up joining Heroic in the 1-3 pool, exiting the major before the arena stage play.
0-3
History didn’t repeat itself for FURIA and The Mongolz.
After a 0-2 start on the first day of the Elimination Stage, both squads were hoping to replicate their Opening Stage comeback run but ultimately found themselves out of the Major.
While the Brazilian team got their playoff hopes crushed by the hometown ECSTATIC boys, the Mongolians were eliminated after a hard-fought BO3 vs paiN.
So who’s facing who in Royal Arena? Read on, dear reader.
