TSM is back

Here’s a test to see if you’re a true CS fan (if you don’t remember, it’s ok - welcome to the best esport).
Remembers the days of old — the days before Astralis, really — when the likes of dev1ce and Karrigan were on TSM? And are you a big enough fan to remember when their NA team boasted talents like Twistzz and autimatic?
Well, they are coming back with… possibly an even stranger roster? If rumours are true anyway:
🇬🇧 CYPHER
🇫🇷 JACKZ
🇷🇺 interz
🇩🇰 valde
🇷🇴 MoDo"
🇫🇷 XTQZZZ (coach)
The last player break was a crazy one for every roster and although TSM dipped their toes into the pool of players once again we’re not sure if they got the best they could.
First off, interz, JACKZ, and valde have all been out of action for varied amounts of time. It’s impossible to know how they might perform within a new lineup. Plus they’ve often been blamed for the lack of results on their previous teams.
CYPHER is arguably the least experienced (if you aren’t counting ITB’s Major run) but also the hottest prospect. His performance in Paris turned a lot of heads and obviously had enough impact to catch the eye of one of the biggest orgs in esports.
Now. MoDo coming from Nexus!
… ok, we’re not gonna lie and say we know a lot about this guy. He seems to have been doing quite well stats-wise in the CCT circuit, well… not headshots. It’s fine he’s an awper. Hopefully, he can have a good step up like his countryman, Regali.
We’ll see if the rumours hold true and if this will be TSM’s re-entry to CS.
Cologne summarized
The cathedral of Counter-Strike has opened one last time for Global Offensive and as the sermon starts, we are told the tale of play-ins.
ESL insist they’re part of the main event, although common nomenclature suggests it's a qualifier – honestly, who cares. We’ve had a load of CS in just a few days and that’s all that matters.
So here’s a tl;dr on Cologne as it’s happened so far, as quickly as we can. Except for MOUZ and fnatic, we’ll get to those.
Who would’ve thought, losing your star player and identity does NOT produce good results? Into The Breach got slapped by NIP in their opening game 16-5. In the lower brackets, TheMongolz didn’t mess around and cleanly 2-0’d them to set up a date with FURIA.
Wait, how did FURIA get there?
By losing to Monte in the upper bracket. The way that game came to be is quite impressive, Monte beating Imperial comfortably wasn’t on the cards after they lost BOROS. FURIA was on the opposite end of that spectrum by nearly losing to Grayhound.
Nearly isn’t enough though.
They might’ve nearly beaten one Brazillian team, but they lost their BO3 against Imperial. But hey, they won a map, even if it took all 30 rounds. Imperial earnt themselves a game against NIP for a Group Stage spot.
NIP will come later, so how about Apeks, Astralis, and Liquid?
Liquid played Astralis, and Astralis won as per usual. On the other side, a point for good GMing, Apeks beat BIG and look as good as they did at Paris. Apeks even nearly beat Astralis, having match point on the deciding map, but they choked. It happens.
All of that ended up with Liquid beating BIG, they now play 9INE to decide who goes to groups.
Oh, we almost forgot. OG and COL played each other also in the Battle of Midway. OG won that, proving once again that bottom EU>NA’s best. Okay, maybe that’s a bit mean M80 might be NA’s best.
When you read this, there’s a good Cologne is about to get started again. So open your stream and enjoy the fireworks.

fnatic and MOUZ go 3-0

Remember the nifty fifty?
Now it’s time for the torzsi forty. Except, it isn’t, because he also got fifty. How inconsiderate. The rhyme was right there.
MOUZ’ decision to keep torzsi over finding a new AWP this summer raised a few eyebrows, but the org decided to give the kid another chance under the kid who brought him through in the NXT project. So far, it appears to be working.
torzsi has been frying.
He went 20-0 in opening duels over the day as MOUZ flew threw to the main stage, dropping 50 in a double OT game over TheMongolz and 41 over two maps against NIP, where he had more than a little help from the unshakeable frozen.
Put it this way; xertioN went 17-36 against NIP, and MOUZ 2-0’d, cleanly.
torzsi’s rejuvenation is lovely to see - and just adds more credence to the idea that for AWPers, siuhy is to dexter what a butterfly knife is to a default knife.
Unless…
It seems dexter’s departure from MOUZ was a mutually beneficial one, as his arrival freed up mezii to drop some bombs of his own. Insert your own Oppenheimer joke here. Relevant content. We’re down with the kids.
fnatic nudged past Complexity in overtime with mezii just shy of the promised 40-bomb, despite dexter only picking up 14 kills. Turns out you shouldn’t make your best player IGL.
He teamed up with roeJ to outclass 9INE, too, with the pair both putting up 88.8 ADR, which we’re sure is symbolic of something. Apparently, the number 8 is linked to wealth and success in China.
Make of that what you will.
