Valve Interview
Very few are blessed with the direct word of God.
Valve famously don’t really like talking in public, which only exacerbates any potential over-examination they might otherwise receive. That is to say: the less you speak, the more the few words you say are looked into.
PC Gamer got the good fortune of an afternoon with John Valve (not a real name) who was a dev on CS2, and teased out some encouraging parts and some that make us a bit tentative.
For example - they speak about the decision to move to a new engine, and later a new game, and how this allows them to keep supporting CS for years going forward. This is excellent!
We’re a little more scared, though, about the fact that they’re planning to add more weapons.
Look, the dev mentions the learnings of the R8 and how it’ll never happen again, but the apprehension deep inside of us is hard to shake.
The other side of that is that… the game doesn’t really need any more guns. What role isn’t fulfilled?
If you need a close range gun, you buy an MP9. If you need a mid range gun, you buy an MP9. If you need a long range gun, you find an angle more suited to the MP9.
They believe that the spray is closer to the 128 tick of GO than the 64 tick, and is ‘roughly the size’ of the 128 tick one, which we might question. Valve also mentioned that they’ll adding in all the old game modes, which is a positive for some of you, but also talk highly of Dust 2, frighteningly.
Thankfully, they do say they won’t go to a typical ‘ADS’ style shooter (CoD, Battlefield etc), which… duh. But nice to hear it from them nonetheless.
Finally they also talked about how maps should be easier to make, and that they’re committed to changing things according to feedback and making CS2 as good as GO.
We recommend reading the full thing yourself. We’re definitely left a bit more optimistic after having done so ourselves.
Don’t be a stranger Valve.
