IEM Sydney invites and quals

We’ve been invited to a land down under!
Invites were sent out this week for IEM Sydney, which those of you with even more insane sleeping schedules than most of us might know as “the best event of the year”.
However, two teams who won’t be thinking of it as the best event are Heroic and Astralis - not because they have normal sleeping patterns, but because like TLDR members to parties, they weren’t invited.
Incidently, if anyone IS having a party…
The rest of the big names you’d expect are there, with it largely mirroring IEM Cologne. Monte and GamerLegion still sneak in based on the Major performance, and given how they looked at Cologne that doesn’t seem unreasonable.
Open Qualifiers also began this week, which are, as always, an endless source of hilarity. Not least because FURIA lost to Sprout in the round of 16, BIG lost to a team called Victory Zigzag and Into the Breach are playing with misutaaa.
Into the Breach still nearly qualified.
It’s important to contextualise these results. Online BO1s do not a season represent, but that doesn’t make it any less funny to watch Brazilians try to defend it.
As to who did make it to the Closed Qualifiers, it was the BIG-conquering Victory Zigzag and nafany’s new BetBoom team. BetBoom toppled Into the Breach in a 30-round third map, while the Zigzaggers took down Sprout.
Who is on Victory Zigzag?
Erm… bubble, mertz, GruBy, propleh and mupzG. What a bizarre team.
A bizarre team that is better than FURIA.

Random Roster Moves
You thought we were done with roster moves? Wrong.
Just as we thought CS was normal, Rare Atom, the best team in China, has let their players go from the org.
The team was due for contract renewal and according to the official communication from the organisation they “couldn't reach an agreement on contract renewal”. They don’t state the exact reasons as to why this was the case, but presumably the players had a good reason.
The players themselves have decided to stick together to find another team, whilst Rare Atom is looking to stay in Chinese CS.
But not all teams are losing their players, some are making coaches play again!
Remember GODSENT? You probably hear about them doing something with their rosters once or twice a year. First they went Brazilian, then they went back to Sweden with draken and RuStY and now they’ve decided to un-retire Golden. Their return to Sweden saw Golden originally taking the coach role, for which we are on the record saying that’s a great idea and that roster’s only redeeming quality.
So we’re not quite sure why they decided to let him play again.
As for who he’s replacing: joel, draken and RuStY have all left the team. Golden can’t fit 3 players spots, so he’s joined by hype and bobeksde previously from PROSPECTS that used to be the 00NATION academy team.
Speaking of 00NATION, it seems they’re done being a mid Brazilian and might have their eyes set on Europe.
According to reports by Dust2.dk, the team is looking to sign a team consisting of birdfromsky, niko, susp, and possibly the 2 most interesting players: JDC and syrsoN. It’s unclear if this would be a separate roster from the Brazilian 00 team, but regardless neither will be qualifying for big events, so does it really matter?
The teams discussed are:
Godsent:
🇸🇪 Golden
🇸🇪 ztr
🇸🇪 Plopski
🇸🇪 hype
🇸🇪 bobeksde
🇸🇪 Kevve (coach)
Rumoured 00NATION team:
🇩🇰 birdfromsky
🇩🇰 Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen
🇩🇪 JDC
🇩🇪 syrsoN
🇸🇪 susp
🇩🇰 Rytter (coach)
CCT Finals

In any normal country, donk would already be the greatest teenager they’d ever had. In Russia, somehow, he’s not. m0NESY just about edges him out.
But it’s far too close for comfort.
While Team Spirit’s new gang of youths fell just short against a dominant Virtus.pro, they remain the big story of CCT, and at the forefront of it is the, as we’ve mentioned previously, wonderfully named donk.
The 16 year old - yes, he was born in 2007, a year many of the TLDR members remember vividly - grabbed the first of what promises to be many MVPs. If you don’t believe us that he’s the next best thing, let’s look at some numbers.
1.33 rating, 0.88 kills/round, 0.20 opening kills/round, 92 ADR over the tournament. The first in all of those disciplines, and plenty more. Sixteen years old. Watch out, world.
As the game gets older, the upcoming kids seem to get better and better at the game; when you’ve been able to grow up watching s1mple from the age of 8 instead of, well, GeT_RiGhT, you will just simply be further ahead.
donk might be the most gifted 16 year old we’ve EVER seen, at least with the rifle, and if he doesn’t end up as one of the best players in the world, something might have gone terribly wrong.
Having said that, he was kept quiet by the stifling Virtus.pro machine.
Jame did what Jame does best. Neuters great players, strangles quality teams and outlasts everybody no matter how long it takes.
VP might just be back to their horrible, suffocating, brutal, clinical ways.
And personally, we love it.
